The spread of invasive species in Ontario affects forests, rivers and lakes. They reduce the amount of trees and wildlife in urban forests by competing with other trees and using up valuable resources such as water and space. Here are some invasive species of trees and shrubs you shouldn’t plant:
Scots Pine
European Black Alder
Giant Hogweed
Phragmites
Buckthorn'
Black Locust
Norway Maple
Only native or non-invasive plants should be planted in Ontario.
